Community Guidelines

What's On? — Last updated: 21 August 2026

These Community Guidelines explain how we expect students and other users to behave when using What's On? (“the app”). The app is operated by WHATS ON EVENTS LTD (company number 17375595), trading as What's On? (“we”, “us”). They sit alongside our Terms of Service — in particular the sections on Acceptable use and Moderation and takedown — and do not replace them. If you publish events or manage an organiser group, the Organiser Agreement also applies.

These guidelines are written as practical guidance. They help you understand what good behaviour looks like, how reporting works, and what can happen when content or accounts breach our rules.

Being part of our community

What's On? is for UK university students and the organisers who publish events for them. We ask everyone to:

The full list of prohibited uses is in the Terms of Service under Acceptable use.

Event attendance

What's On? is intended for users aged 18 and over. By using the app you confirm that you meet this requirement — see Terms of Service § Eligibility and age.

Listing an event in the app does not mean we organise, host, or vouch for it. Attendance at any event is at your own risk. Use your judgement about venues, travel, and personal safety, and follow any rules set by the venue or organiser. See the Disclaimer and limitation of liability section of our Terms for more detail.

Reporting an event or organiser

If you see an event or organiser profile that appears to break these guidelines or our Terms, you can report it from within the app. On the event detail or organiser profile screen, use the report action, choose a category, and optionally add context.

You must be signed in with an email account (guest / anonymous users cannot submit reports). To prevent spam, you can submit one report per event or organiser every 24 hours on that device. If you have already reported that item recently on that device, the report option will be unavailable until the cooling-off period ends.

Reports are reviewed by our team. Serious or repeated reports about the same content may be escalated for faster review. Filing a report does not guarantee a particular outcome, and we may take no action if the content does not breach our rules.

What happens after a report — moderation outcomes

We use a mix of automated checks and human review to protect users and keep the catalogue trustworthy:

Depending on the situation, outcomes can include:

We do not guarantee that every problem will be caught before content appears. If something looks wrong, please report it. More detail on how moderation works for publishers is in the Organiser Agreement and in the Moderation and takedown section of our Terms of Service.

If you disagree with a decision

If you believe we made a mistake about content removal, a rejected event, or a restriction on your account or group, contact us at privacy@whatson-events.com and include enough detail for us to find the decision (for example the event title, date, or group name). We will review what you send and respond where we can. Contacting us does not pause any restriction already in place, and we may not reverse a decision that still appears justified under our Terms.

Organiser rules

Students who apply for or join an organiser group take on extra responsibilities when they publish events. Those publisher rules — content standards, prohibited content, and suspension — are set out in the Organiser Agreement. This page does not restate them.

Some listings you see in the app may be published by us on an organisation's behalf until that organisation claims them — see Platform-listed organisations in the Terms of Service and § 8 of the Organiser Agreement.

Changes to these guidelines

We may update these guidelines as the app evolves. Material changes will be communicated in-app or by email where appropriate. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
